I haven't been to a TAUG (Toronto Asterisk Users Group) meeting in a long time but for good reason. Most of the topics have become repetitive and nothing new and interesting was happening. This weeks presentation featured a new appliance called Jazinga that was started up by some core TAUG members. This looked like something worth hearing about and it turned out to be a pretty good presentation.

The Jazinga is a 4 port wireless router and PBX. It features 4 port lan, 1 port WAN,1 port FXO, 2 port FXS. It has an impressive flash based interface and is intended for the SOHO market. The MSRP is $1100 which seems a little expensive to me for a SOHO product. It has some interesting technologies and looks like it would be suitable for many deployments.

There are a few companies that I do Asterisk Installs for. At the moment it looks like it would cost us money to resell it. Our low end Asterisk solutions costs less than what Jazinga sells for. We can provide more features and support more handsets/PSTN lines with standard server hardware and that's after adding a wireless router to the setup. We make more profit on hardware solving the same problems without the Jazinga appliance.

If the Jazinga had a model without the wireless router and options to pick combination of FXS/FXO ports at lower price it might be a product that we can use. I do realize that this is not the same thing but we sell solutions not products. A product is part of the solution and price is a big factor. Nice little box though!
