Asterisk for Dummies

It looks like Asterisk has reached the critical mass that an Asterisk for Dummies is now available from  Amazon. You can read the table of contents and few pages online. It looks like it should be up to date as it mentions AsteriskNow in one of the pages. Some other Asterisk books that haven't been released but can be pre-oderfered include: Asterisk Cookbook, Asterisk Hacking , and  Asterisk Essentials.

There is a new release of the Zaptel driver for the Asterisk 1.4. Also checkout Russell's Blog on Presence or SLA configuration on Asterisk.

Lets create an Asterisk monitor in Freepascal. If you have seen programs like FOP (Flash Operator Panel) or HUD (Heads up Display) you may be wondering how these programs work. Asterisk provides a protocol that allows you to query the server and issue commands from local or remote servers. This allows you to run the monitor program from Linux or Windows operating systems. New Phone and Analog Gateway from Linksys

It looks like Linksys is really getting serious with their new phones and gateways! The SPA962 is a 6 line colour display  SIP phone. There is now also a 32 button console station to see what extensions are in use with the SPA932. And finally Linksys has a real 8 port analog SIP gateway with the SPA8000. Unlike the older SPA400 this is a true analog to SIP gateway that works with our favourite open source software. The SPA400  only worked with the SPA9000 Linksys PBX.
