PIKA Analog Board

 While searching Google for all things relating to Asterisk, I discovered PIKA Technologies. I may have seen the name before, but it wasn't something I associated with Asterisk hardware. What caught my eye was that PIKA was having a FREE board promotion.

Linksys Unlocks SPA941 – Full 4 lines with 5.1.8 firmware!

After a few weeks of reseting and re-entering different account information in my 2 line SPA941 I was ready to purchase the 4 line license upgrade. I tried ordering it from my supplier only to be told that Linksys has discontinued this product.

I've been using the SPA3000 for almost a year now. Its a great little device to hack around with. I have used it for all kinds of experiments. It's a great way to test Asterisk routing and trunking. I have used it to experiment with IP dialing and hotline setup. Right now I have setup with my Slug (NSLU2) to play around with Asterisk 1.4.9.

Here is a cool utility that allows you to change your ringtone on your Linksys SPA9xx phones. The Linksys phones allow you to store up to two user selectable ringtones.

From the Release Notes:

These releases contain fixes for four critical security vulnerabilities. One of these vulnerabilities is a remotely exploitable stack buffer overflow, which could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target machine. The other three are all remotely exploitable crash vulnerabilities.

Choosing The Best Hardware For Your Asterisk/Trixbox Server

One of the major problems with using Open Source software is drivers and compatibility between hardware brands. One of the questions that I keep seeing is about choosing the right hardware for Linux. The most often wrong answer that I see is “Linux works well with old hardware so anything will work.” This is not true, if you see answers like this please keep away from any future advice from these types of individuals.

Note: This is a Minor Release Fixing Some Items that were broken from the Asterisk 1.2.21 and 1.4.7 Release. 

 From the Release Notes: 

The Asterisk development team has released Asterisk version 1.2.21.1 and 1.4.7.1. These releases are minor updates to the releases that were made yesterday to fix a couple of introduced issues. One issue was related to the ODBC realtime driver. Another was related to music on hold.
