When I first began learning VOIP the LVS series was one of the first products I was introduced to. At the time this seemed like a great product at a great price. It was a great starting point for learning VOIP and Telephony because until this point I had zero knowledge of either. Unfortunately what may be a great learning tool isn't always a great product for deploying to customer sites.

  it's been almost 3 years since I got involved in this wonderful world of VoIP. Like many I discovered Asterisk and saw all this great potential. Immediately I wanted to get involved in learning everything I could about Asterisk. Looking back that seemed way too optimistic. I have learned a great deal but feel that I have even more to learn.

 One big piece of miss-information floating around the internet about Polycom is that  their latest IP phone firmware is only available to partners and resellers.

 Linksys Firmware Updates 6.3.1a for SPA922/942/962

  Linksys has never officially supported Asterisk. The Linksys SPA942 is the worlds best selling IP phone. This is information from Cisco/Linksys presentation seminars that I have attended in the last couple of years. This is only a guess but I am willing to bet that most of those SPA942 phones are dangling off Asterisk systems and not Linksys LVS9000.

 The SPA400 is designed to work in conjunction with the LVS9000 to provide full Voip and Analog Telephony features. The LVS9000 system was a product I was initially excited to see Linksys release. And even though this product had problems from the beginning I had confidence that this product was too important for Linksys not to improve. It's been over two years since I first touched the LVS9000 but my opinion over time has changed.
